nevada's effort to embrace renewable energy... took a big step forward today. governor sandoval is entering an agreement... to share ideas and resources with 17 states. it's called the "governors' accord for a new energy future"... and focuses on making renewable energy make sense for states. kolo 8 news now's colin lygren shows us why governor sandoval says... this is good news for nevada. nats - just drive around.... and you'll see it. nevada... means renewable energy. "we're one of the nation's leaders in renewable energy." number two in solar... number one in geothermal. at times... nevada is producing more renewable energy... than we can use. meanwhile... next door in california... they don't have enough renewable energy. "this gives us an opportunity to work with the other states and perhaps export the energy, the renewable energy that we generate, to them." sandoval is talking about a new agreement between 17 governors. it focuses on expanding renewable energy generation... and

energy ideas. "does that mean increased revenue for the state?" "sure it does. what i hope it leads to the construction of even more solar fields, the construction of more geothermal sites. they will build some of the out of state utilities and we will enter into what are called purchase power agreements and we will sell our energy to them." this agreement is something that is needed. california law requires 50-percent renewable energy use by the year 2030. they can't make enough of it... so they'll buy it from us. they get it cheap... and we make a little profit. "sometimes they have generated excess energy that nevada can use when we have got a higher demand, so there is a market that allows us to exchange energy back and forth. it will be mutually beneficial to both states and ultimately the rate payers." the governors' accord... only in its infancy right now... has a lot of potential for growth... according to sandoval. in carson city... colin
